At the Helm of Your Life: How a Silence Walk and Fire Ritual Help Break Old Patterns

Intro

Many people sense that they are not fully at the helm of their own life. Work, expectations from others and ingrained habits determine the course more than conscious choices. During the Spring Retreat at Villa St. Joseph, Day 3 is entirely focused on direction and patterns: do you have a clear horizon, and do your daily choices match what you really want.

Section 1 - Theme of the Day: Direction and Patterns

The central questions of this day are: am I at the helm of my life, do I have enough energy for that, and do I see a clear dot on the horizon. You look at the underlying patterns and beliefs that keep you in place, sometimes long after they have stopped serving you. The setting of the Costa Brava, with sea, rocks and long paths along the coast, supports the feeling that you can literally and figuratively take a new direction.

Section 2 - Optional Morning Movement: Strength, Balance, Grounding

The day starts at the villa with an optional movement session led by Gustavo. The focus is on strength, balance and grounding: exercises that anchor you in your body and help you feel your stability. Many participants experience that this physical grounding makes it easier to look honestly at their life direction later in the day.

Section 3 - Silence Walk from Sant Feliu to Playa dAro

Around 11:00 you leave for a silence walk from Sant Feliu to Playa dAro, for which you bring a day backpack with water, shoes and what you need for about four hours of walking. The first 1.5 hours are in silence, so you can really hear your own thoughts and feelings without the noise of conversations. Along the way you receive reflection assignments, sometimes symbolically with a measuring tape: what do I still want in my life, what does my life ask of me now, and how concretely do I see that in front of me.

Section 4 - Lunch: Patterns, Choices and a Goal

In a beach restaurant in Playa dAro you have lunch together and deepen the themes of patterns, choices and goals. You investigate which patterns you recognize in work, relationships and self-care, and which beliefs keep those patterns in place. This can be beliefs such as "I must always be available" or "if I rest, I am lazy" - thoughts that may have protected you once but now mainly cost energy.

Section 5 - New Direction: Rewriting Beliefs

A crucial part of the afternoon is the step towards new direction: which belief no longer serves you, and how can you rewrite it so that it strengthens you. You formulate new, supportive beliefs that match the life you want to live now. By sharing this with the group, you not only commit to yourself but also receive reflection and encouragement from others who are in a similar process.

Section 6 - Afternoon: Pool, Relaxation, Cycling

After the walk and the in-depth conversation, there is time in the afternoon to recover at the pool, relax or go cycling. This physical relaxation ensures that you do not stay only in your head with your insights, but that they can land in your body as well. Many participants use this time to journal, lie in the sun for a moment or discuss what came up with one or two others in a quiet way.

Section 7 - Evening: BBQ and Fire Ritual

In the evening there is a BBQ with Gustavo, which immediately creates a relaxed, informal atmosphere after the intensive day. The highlight of the evening is the fire ritual: you write down what no longer serves you, speak it out aloud and literally give it to the fire. This symbolic act helps many people to let go not only mentally but also emotionally of patterns, roles or expectations that they have carried for years.

Section 8 - Champagne Moment: Toasting the Chosen You

After the fire ritual there is a champagne moment where you toast to the reborn and consciously chosen version of yourself. This joyful moment anchors the new direction in a positive, festive way, instead of only looking at what needs to go. You close the day with the feeling that you have made concrete steps towards a life that better matches who you are now.

Section 9 - How This Day Impacts Your Life at Home

The combination of silence walk, reflection assignments, group conversation, fire ritual and champagne moment ensures that Day 3 leaves a deep impression. Many participants indicate afterwards that this is the day they made key decisions or dared to speak out ideas that had been dormant for years. Because you connect new beliefs to concrete images and rituals, you are more likely to recognize at home when you fall back into old patterns - and choose differently.
